Kubera’s Calling

One of my journeys across the unknown

One day while meditating in Kubera’s presence a vision more of a path was laid before me.  The vision flashed to over mountains above the mysterious clouds to the north, to a grand temple, and riches beyond my wildest dreams.  As the treasure was flashing dice were rolling and kept rolling.  This would be my biggest gamble yet.

I started to pack my rucksack and my food supply of dried noodles and jerky looking around at the circle wondering if I would ever see this place again.  I strapped on my boots and did a double check of my gear.  I took a deep breath as nervousness struck me, I am no daredevil by any means but I could see why they live for these risks.  The adrenaline rush is so huge almost overwhelming for someone like me who is not used to it.  I look back one last time at the beloved circle that stood empty for the time being, it was very early in the morning, and I walked out to the stables to get my horse.

I began to travel the long abandon overgrown road. As I traveled north I could just feel Kubera’s presence guiding me pulling and tugging at my soul, he has something to share with his chosen people.  The broken down old road finally got too over grown for my horse I get off put my packs on my back, and let the horse go, he trotted off down the road, I was pretty confident he would find his way home.  I unsheathe my machete and start cutting through underbrush.  The great mountains were looming before me towering so high up, their peaks shooting up into the mysterious clouds that swirled oddly around them; I couldn’t help stare as I worked my way into their shadow to the base of the mountains it was truly a spectacle to behold.

The mountains were a very arduous task, 4 days and 5 nights were spent just scaling the up to the peak, once I got over the peak and through the swirling masses of clouds I saw it.  A grand abandoned city the walls looked as if they were lined with gold it sparkled and gleamed as the sun shone down on it.  In the middle of this ancient grand city was a huge temple there was no doubt in my mind it was for Kubera.  My fellow merchants I wish you could have seen this spectacle I was so awe struck and overwhelmed, I just sat down and spent the rest of the day on the mountain by a cave I had found looking at the sight thinking of past present and future.

The next day I was ready to get to the temple, I worked my way down the perilous mountain, as I reached the bottom and back into the forest it started to rain.  It was a torrential down pour sopping me from head to toe.  As I reached the gates over the city scars of war was obvious, I worked my way through the grand golden buildings searching a few as I worked my way to the temple. Finding trinkets in the buildings one of the curious artifacts I found was what looked to be a very ancient pair of gold nuggets covered with a thick layer of dust I brushed them off and they gleamed as though they had never been touched, this place was very curious indeed.

I got to the temple and looked up at the monstrous doors and tried pushing on them, they slowly creaked open revealing a hall way light sparkling off of the golden walls.  At the end of the hallway was a door etched with what seemed to be mural of Kubera.  I went up to the mural and began running my fingers across it.  I couldn’t believe my eyes I was standing as close to Kubera as I could be I could feel him all around me; the feeling grew stronger and stronger until darkness overtook me.

All sorts of strange visions danced in my head and then I heard a voice that could only be of Kubera, it boomed “Jaken welcome to the house of my treasures, Once in many moons is it that I seek out the worthy to become one of my protectors of my treasure house, inside are the treasures of dreams, I would ask of you to help me, I want you to become one of my Kinnara.”

If I would have been conscious I would be shaking, only a fool would not be intimidated by the greatness of Kubera.

I respond to him explaining to him that I am not ready to leave my brothers and sisters of the merchant guild.  That I feel as though I have unexplained duties to myself and the world that I owe the world my servitude to try and make it a better place.

He replied “I know, as this is why I have chosen you, I do not want you to stay here per say, but to be my protector throughout the world spreading the knowledge I have given you and show the non-believers I exist.  Take these dice as they have been blessed by me and have the luck of gods, show the world I have not forgotten on them and the caring and kind will be rewarded.  Although wickedness will always exist, do your best to shun it from the face of the earth and battle evil with all of your hearts passion for that take this Katana and wear it proudly, it will be an unbreakable weapon with my name forever engraved into it.  Jaken take all of this back to your breathren and share your story and stand for me always.  From this day on you will be amongst my Kinnara”

With that Kubera’s voice had vanished and consciousness returned, as I sat up dazed and looked down at my feel was the Katana and a set of golden dice.   I looked around and slowly got myself together touching minds with a god is a very overwhelming experience.  I set up camp for the night and got some rest as I was so exhausted.

The next day I started on my way back to the Guild to share my story with you all and here I am telling you about it as Kinnara a protector of Kubera.
