Kubera’s Treasure House

The life of Kubera is filled with many interesting facts and a way to peer into how he evolved from a normal man into a God.  As a man, Kubera was a rich mill-owner, who gave all the produce of one of his seven mills to charity, and provided alms to the needy for 1,000 years. As a reward for his selflessness, he was reborn in heaven as the god of wealth.  He then became the guardian of all the treasures of Earth.  Just as he did in his mortal form, he gave these out to those that showed worthiness through their actions.  Kubera is one of the few gods to become a god due to acts of generosity.

It is said that Kubera’s treasure house is located deep within the northern mountains. This is where Kubera and his most devout followers, Kinnaras care for all the riches of the Earth. These treasures are said to include Gold, silver, bronze and many relics of the ancient world.  There are 9 heavenly items that were granted to Kubera upon his ascention, these are the most valued items in the treasure house.

One of these heavenly items is rumored to be the magical Rudraksha bead or “21 Mukhi Kubera Rudraksha” as it is called.  This is said to be the embodyment of Kubera.  It is rumored that if a mortal were to possess this it would give them any worldly pleasure, happiness or luxury.  Thus it has been sought after for many years by those that would use this for their own selfish reasons.

Kubera’s treasures house is impossible to penetrate.  It is only through gaining the trust of Kubera through your own actions that anyone would be allowed to even view these treasures.  As such many greedy people over the years have tried to infiltrate the ranks of the Kinnaras.

All of the current guardians of these treasures, come from within the Merchant Guild of Kugoryo.  They are choosen from those that exhibit the traits of Kubera and live by the same honor, integrity and selflessness that helped Kubera ascend to his position as God of Wealth.
